Disability Support Worker — Armidale NSW
About the role
Asina Disability Support is hiring experienced Disability Support Workers to provide person-centred NDIS support to participants across Armidale and the surrounding New England Region. You will work 1:1 and in small-group settings across community access, daily living, drop-in support and supported independent living.
This role requires demonstrated experience supporting people with Behaviours of Concern. You will need to be calm under pressure, skilled in de-escalation, and committed to positive behaviour support practice.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group support aligned with each participant’s NDIS plan
- Support daily living tasks including personal care, meal preparation and household routines
- Facilitate community access, social participation and transport to appointments
- Provide positive behaviour support and evidence-based de-escalation
- Complete accurate, timely shift notes via the My Asina app
- Collaborate with family, support coordinators and allied health
- Uphold dignity, choice and the NDIS Practice Standards on every shift
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with Behaviours of Concern
- Understanding of positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Reliability, professionalism and ability to work autonomously
- Current NSW driver’s licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
- Right to work in Australia
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or Community Services
- Experience with complex needs, autism spectrum, mental health or dual diagnosis
- Manual handling, medication administration or mealtime management training
- SIL, drop-in or overnight support experience
Mandatory clearances
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain before commencement)
- Current NSW Working with Children Check
- Current First Aid & CPR certificate
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module
Hours & shift pattern
Up to 22 hours per week across five fixed days:
- Monday 8:00am–4:00pm (8 hrs)
- Wednesday 10:00am–2:00pm (4 hrs)
- Thursday 10:00am–2:00pm (4 hrs)
- Friday 10:00am–2:00pm (4 hrs)
- Saturday 10:00am–12:00pm (2 hrs — weekend penalty rates apply)
