Getting Started with the NDIS in Springwood & the Lower Mountains
Starting Out, Without the Jargon
If you or someone you love has a disability and you're in Springwood, Winmalee, Blaxland, Warrimoo or anywhere in the Lower Mountains, the NDIS can fund real, practical support: help at home, getting out into the community, transport, building skills and more. The paperwork can feel like a lot; the actual steps are simple.
Step 1: Check Eligibility
Broadly, you'll need to be under 65 when you apply, an Australian resident, and have a permanent disability that affects your everyday life. If that sounds like you or your family member, it's worth applying even if you're not sure, plenty of people assume they won't qualify and do.
Step 2: Apply and Gather Evidence
The application asks for evidence from your GP or specialists about your disability and how it affects daily living. Local GPs in the Mountains handle these requests all the time, so don't be shy about asking. The clearer the picture of your day-to-day, the better your plan will be.
Step 3: Your Planning Meeting
Once accepted, you'll have a planning conversation about your goals, what you want more of in your life, and what support would get you there. Be specific and honest about hard days, not just good ones. Plans are built on what you say here.
Step 4: Choose Your Providers
With a plan in place, you choose who delivers your support, and you can change providers at any time. This is where local matters: workers who live in the Mountains turn up reliably, know the community, and stay long enough to become familiar faces. Our team works from 6 Frazer Road in Springwood (open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday), and you choose your own support workers through our participant portal.
