Accessible Things to Do in the Blue Mountains

The Mountains Are More Accessible Than You'd Think

World-famous scenery has a reputation for stairs and steep tracks, but the Blue Mountains has quietly built some genuinely great accessible experiences. Here are the ones our support workers rate, roughly in order up the hill. Accessibility can change with weather and upgrades, so it's always worth a quick call ahead, something your support worker can sort as part of planning a day out.

Lower Mountains: Glenbrook to Springwood

Glenbrook Lagoon has flat paths, birdlife and picnic spots that make for an easy, calm outing. Springwood town centre is one of the friendliest main streets in the Mountains: level footpaths, cafes with step-free entry, the Braemar House gallery, and the library right in the middle. Our office is here too, at 6 Frazer Road, so if you're planning supports around a day out, drop in.

Mid Mountains: Lawson to Wentworth Falls

Wentworth Falls picnic area offers big views without the big descent, with accessible parking and facilities near the lookout side. The Conservation Hut cafe has ramp access and one of the best lunch views in NSW.

Upper Mountains: Katoomba & Blackheath

Echo Point is the classic for a reason: the Three Sisters from a wide, level, wheelchair-accessible viewing platform, with accessible parking and bathrooms. Scenic World is a standout for accessibility planning, with step-free access to key experiences and staff who are used to helping visitors with mobility needs. In spring, the gardens around Leura village and the accessible sections of the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden at Mount Tomah are worth the trip.

Down the Hill: Penrith

The Great River Walk along the Nepean is flat, wide, sealed shared path with river views, one of the best accessible walks in Western Sydney, and the Regatta Centre parkland is ideal for groups.

Getting There Is Part of the Support

Community access funding exists exactly for days like these: a support worker to plan the outing, handle transport between villages, and make sure the day actually works for you. If you'd like to explore the Mountains with support that knows the terrain, call our Springwood office on 0447 772 503 or start at our Springwood page.
