Best Disability Support Activities and Outings in Armidale

Community access disability support activities and outings in Armidale NSW

Armidale and the New England Region offer a fantastic range of activities for NDIS participants. Whether you enjoy arts and culture, the outdoors, sport, or socialising, there's something for everyone. Here are some of the best activities our participants at Asina Disability Support enjoy.

Arts, Culture and Museums

New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) on Kentucky Street is one of Australia's leading regional galleries, with regularly changing exhibitions, workshops, and a lovely garden setting. It's a favourite for our community access outings. The Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place on Kentucky Street shares the rich history and culture of the Anaiwan people and is an accessible, welcoming space for all visitors.

Parks and Nature

Dumaresq Dam Reserve offers beautiful walking trails around the dam with accessible paths, picnic areas, and birdwatching opportunities. It's one of Armidale's most peaceful spots and perfect for a supported walk. Curtis Park in the heart of Armidale has accessible pathways, playground equipment, and plenty of green space for relaxing. Central Park near the mall is great for a quick outing or a coffee break at a nearby cafe.

For those who enjoy longer outings, the Dangarsleigh area south of Armidale offers bushwalking tracks through stunning New England countryside, and Wollomombi Falls (about 40km east) is one of Australia's highest waterfalls with an accessible viewing platform.

Sport and Recreation

Armidale City Bowling Club is a popular venue for social bowling with our participants — it's accessible, affordable, and great fun. Armidale War Memorial Pool on Dumaresq Street offers heated swimming and is well-suited for supported aquatic activities. Local sporting clubs including the Armidale Golf Club, tennis courts, and gym facilities also welcome participants.

Shopping and Cafes

The Mall (Beardy Street) is Armidale's main shopping and dining strip, with cafes, restaurants, and retail shops that our participants visit regularly. Armidale Plaza has Coles, specialty shops, and food court options. The Armidale Farmers Market on Saturday mornings at the Showground is a wonderful outing for fresh produce and local atmosphere.

Social and Community

The Armidale City Library on Faulkner Street offers free programs, book clubs, and a quiet space for reading and learning. Armidale Ex-Services Memorial Club hosts social events, meals, and entertainment. The University of New England (UNE) campus is open to the public and has beautiful grounds, a museum, and regular community events. Throughout the year, the Armidale Showground hosts markets, festivals, and community gatherings.

Day Trips from Armidale

For longer community access outings, popular day trips include visiting Uralla (23km south) to explore Thunderbolt's Rock and McCrossin's Mill, heading to Guyra (35km north) for the Mother of Ducks Lagoon, or travelling to Tamworth (115km) for the bigger shopping centres and Tamworth Regional Playground — an amazing all-abilities playground.
